Castings come out with a smooth but matte surface finish, and require significant hand work to bring out the perfect finish. Dennis uses a combination of tools to further clean the rough casting. Some of the tools include: a felt polishing wheel, file, bristle brush, and muslin buff. On the cleaned metal, Dennis then carefully uses a graver to carve a natural, tree-bark-inspired texture, adding intricate detail that highlights the top face of the ring and gives it a distinctive, organic character.
