Mac begins the setting process with the accent stones. He lowers each stone into the settings using a wax dop. The tips of the prongs are then squeezed over the top of the stones using pliers.
Mac then uses a hart bur to cut the seat for the center stone. The seat is essentially a small notch that is carved into the inner surface of each prong. When your gemstone is placed onto this seat, it helps to hold it firmly in place, preventing it from shifting or becoming loose over time.
He double checks that the stone is level before securing it by squeezing the tips of the prongs over the top.
